The Last Meal

What a Hectic last day in SF. Of course, I lagged and put everything off til last minute. I started off my day waking up late (10:30), and then I showered and got ready. I took a look at my To do list that I planned the day before… and it didn’t look pretty.

My To Do List

  1. Start Packing for the Philippines
  2. Business Meeting (2hrs)
  3. Park my cars into storage
  4. Go to the Bank
  5. Send Checks to landlord
  6. Pay off parking tickets
  7. Clean my room
  8. Do my laundry
  9. Create a Facebook Account (if youre reading this, add me)

These were things that I should have accomplished throughout the week, but as you guys all know, it’s not my style. So to prevent myself from being too stressed out, I did what I usually do in these critical moments. I went to lunch.

For lunch, we (mom, brother, brother’s gf) decided to go to Loi’s, one of our local favorite Pho joints. While waiting in line, I couldn’t help but notice for the first time, their inspection score. Right by the door was a big fat 42, displayed with pride. I don’t know if it’s the huge tray of Cha Gio (egg rolls) out in the open next to the bathroom, the tea that always has a hint of soapy water, or the thumb in the soup as the old man serves you your bowl of pho, but a 42 is pretty damn impressive. It just goes to show that the saying is true “the dirtier the place, the better.”

DIRTY Cheap PHO…but OH SO GOOD!
Don’t be scared of this place and how it looks because if you are all about great taste, fast food and CHEAP, then you will find it here at Loi’s. Try it out!”  yelp review by some cute asian chick

Don’t forget the flies hanging around. I always feel icky going to this place, but my family seems to like it. I was introduced to the Hanoi beef dish one time which was quite tasty.

The “thumb in the soup” technique is employed in all respectable pho restaurants. Gives it that extra punch of salt right before serving.
