The Art of Sneaking into First Class pt 3.. the last one
okay, a few people have asked me how i came up with all of this… it all happened a few years back while waiting for a flight back to sf from singapore.
I randomly struck a conversation with a big, old, Nigerian dude while waiting to board our delayed flight back to SFO. After a few sentences of chit chatting, I struck interest in his line of work which was something related to being an oil engineer consultant from Canada. He went on and off about how he hated to travel and leave his family behind every other week and then he tried to sell me on how there was a huge demand for people in that industry and that the starting salary was really good.
Okay, I wasnt really that interested, and I definitely wasnt looking for a new line of profession, but I can never get away from talking to people about business. I told him about what I did and asked him what I can do to improve my smog shops and basically sat there for a good 30 minutes hearing him yap away about who knows what. I like meeting new people though, so it wasnt really that bad. Besides, its always good to make new contacts from different parts of the world.
Well, to make a long story short… I went up to take a piss during a really busy time on the flight (after the meal) and the economy bathroom was really crowded. I didnt feel like waiting so I went over to the business class one which had a much lesser line. After taking my piss, I peaked through the curtain divider between the two classes and saw the big Nigerian dude sitting there by himself (i forgot what he was doing). I went past the curtain and took a seat in the aisle next to him and asked him how his flight was. He went off on a few random topics and the next thing i knew, the first class host was treating me like one of them. I originally had no intention to stay in first class, but i was stuck there against my will and had no choice.
Once you go first class, you cant go back. So every time I flew international from then on, it has always been a challenge for me to see how far I can get (unless i was really tired or drunk). To answer Ray’s question, Ive been caught many times, but I always just gave the hostess a my bad and went back. Sometimes i would even get caught in both first and business class on the same flight. Theres no harm in getting sent back to your seat, and you’ll only be embarrassed in front of the first/business class people. So next time youre feeling bored and have nothing to do, practice the art of sneaking into first class.. by Errol Chua
Bonus tip: If you want a good seat in economy with plenty of foot room, go to the check in counter while using crutches. You can even bypass the fatty line and go straight to the first class counter. They wont bump you up to business class though… trust me I tried many times.
